The Academic Division of the Language Centre is undergoing the process of building a competency profile for students at the Bachelor’s and Master’s Programmes at Palacký University Olomouc, as its aim is to develop foreign language skills, especially for professional and academic communication.

The Academic Division of the Language Centre offers its students a choice of more than 85 courses in 8 languages - English, French, Italian, German, Latin, Russian, Spanish and Swedish. On average, 2,000 students attend the Language Centre’s courses each semester.

WHAT WE OFFER

Alongside the general language courses, the Academic Division of the Language Centre also offers specialized courses as a part of the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes, such as professional courses tailored to specific programmes of study.

Apart from the above mentioned courses, the students are offered many academic and professional courses, e.g. Academic English, Business English, Professional Communication in English.

The Academic Division of the Language Centre also organizes foreign language exams and tutorials for the part-time students.

PROJECTS AT THE DEPARTMENT

In cooperation with the Department of Art History, Department of Musicology, Department of Theatre, Film and Media Studies, Department of History, Department of Classical Philology and Department of Philosophy, the Language Centre offers academic English courses – all as a part of the European project Innovation of Academic English Courses for the Humanities.

As a result of an ESF project, the Language Centre organizes Intercultural Communication Courses in English, German, Spanish and French. The project Development of Quality Assurance System of International Work Placement of Palacký University Students, was managed by the International Relations Office at the Rector‘s Office and is noted for the cooperation of six of the Palacký University faculties.

Currently, the Language Centre of the Faculty of Arts participates in the project Palacký University as a Complex Educational Institution. The aims of the Language Centre within this project are as follows: to improve pedagogical skills of the academic staff in the field of methodology of teaching relating to communication in academia; to implement the open-access e-learning system Moodle and prepare study materials, to prepare placement tests for students before they choose their courses; and last but not least to secure quality language education for the employees of the Faculty of Arts.

INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TESTS

The Language Centre also offers German language proficiency tests not only for its students but also for the general public. The Academic Division of the Language Centre is a testing centre for the Goethe-Institut exams, and also organizes preparatory courses for Palacký University students.

The Academic Division of the Language Centre is a testing centre for the Czech Language Certificate Exam (CCE) and Oxford Test of English.
